Et'hem Bey Mosque stands on Skanderbeg Square. Since 1925, after the order was banned in Turkey, Tirana has been the world headquarters of the Bektashi, a mystical Sufi tradition. In 1967 the state outlawed religion outright and repurposed or demolished more than two thousand buildings of worship.
