Why go
Two days in the south-east: the Albanian shore of Lake Ohrid, a night in Korçë, and the snow at Dardhë the next morning.
Lake Ohrid is two to three million years old and holds species found nowhere else. The Albanian third of it runs from Lin, a village on a peninsula of Roman mosaics, down to Pogradec.
Korçë is the city of serenades, of the first Albanian-language school, and of an old bazaar rebuilt into the liveliest square in the south-east.
Dardhë sits at 1,344 metres above Korçë, a village of stone houses that turns into a small ski resort each winter, with a drag lift on the slope at Bigëll.

Itinerary
Day 108:00
South-east on the SH3, about two hours, with a stop on the Lin peninsula for the view down the length of Lake Ohrid.
Day 1midday
The winter promenade along the shore and lunch by the water, Koran fish if it is on.
Day 1afternoon
Fifteen minutes on: the springs, the willows and the still channels of Drilon park.
Day 1evening
Forty-five minutes to the city. Check in, then the old bazaar, the lights and a Korça beer.
Day 2morning
Forty-five minutes up the mountain road to the stone village at 1,344 m. In winter we run winter tyres and carry chains.
Day 2midday
A few hours on the drag lift and the forest runs, or a walk in the snow if you would rather watch.
Day 2afternoon
Back into the village for lakror baked under a saç, and a fire to thaw out at.
Day 2late
Down the mountain to Korçë and onto the highway, home in the evening.
